Heck’s disease occurring after Epstein‐Barr virus‐associated smooth muscle tumors in an immunosuppressed child

A 10‐year‐old Guatemalan girl with past medical history of Epstein‐Barr virus‐associated smooth muscle tumors (EBV‐SMT) and combined immunodeficiency presented for evaluation of painful intraoral lesions. On examination, she was noted to have multiple, white to flesh‐colored, soft, flat‐topped papules, and plaques on the buccal and labial mucosa. Human papillomavirus type 13 was detected on PCR with PGMY primers of previously biopsied buccal tissue, confirming a diagnosis of Heck's disease (multifocal epithelial hyperplasia). We present an immunosuppressed, pediatric patient with two rare, virus‐associated neoplastic disorders that have not been previously reported to occur in the same individual.     

Infantile hemangioma of the upper lip and enamel hypoplasia: Two case reports

Segmental infantile hemangiomas related to PHACE syndrome have recently been associated with enamel hypoplasia. We present two cases of solitary, localized upper lip infantile hemangioma with enamel hypoplasia of deciduous teeth.     

Intravitreal Anti-vascular Endothelial Growth Factor for Newly Diagnosed Symptomatic Polypoidal Choroidal Vasculopathy with Extrafoveal Polyps

PurposeTo evaluate the 12-month outcome of anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) treatment for extrafoveal polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy (PCV).MethodsThis retrospective observational study included 32 eyes of 32 patients newly diagnosed with extrafoveal PCV (polyps located more than 500 µm from the center of the fovea). Patients were treated with intravitreal ranibizumab, bevacizumab, or both. The best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) and central foveal thickness (CFT) at diagnosis and at 12 months were compared. Eyes were divided into two groups according to the presence of submacular hemorrhage. The BCVA in each group was compared at baseline and at 12 months.ResultsDuring the 12-month study period, patients received an average of 4.0 ± 1.1 anti-VEGF injections. The BCVA at baseline, three-month post-diagnosis, and 12-month post-diagnosis was 0.59 ± 0.40, 0.34 ± 0.38, and 0.38 ± 0.38, respectively. The BCVA at 12 months was significantly better than the baseline value (p = 0.002). The CFT at baseline, three-month, and 12-month post-diagnosis was 477.1 ± 194.2 µm, 214.5 ± 108.8 µm, and 229.8 ± 106.1 µm, respectively. The CFT at 12 months was significantly lower than the baseline value (p < 0.001). A significant improvement in BCVA was noted in eyes with and without submacular hemorrhage (n = 13, p = 0.032 and n = 19, p = 0.007, respectively).ConclusionsAnti-VEGF therapy was beneficial in extrafoveal PCV, regardless of the presence of submacular hemorrhage.

生殖器丘疹样棘层松解性皮病一例

报道1例生殖器丘疹样棘层松解性皮病。患者，男，30岁。2年前肛周出现灰白色丘疹，部分融合，伴瘙痒。实验室检查：HPV6阳性，醋酸白试验、梅毒螺旋体明胶凝集试验(TPPA)、HIV均阴性。皮损组织病理示：基底层上方棘层下方多处裂隙，可见棘层松解细胞，中等量淋巴细胞浸润。直接免疫荧光：IgG、IgM、IgA、C3阴性。予以0.03%他克莫司外用6个月后丘疹明显变平，瘙痒缓解。     

Improvement of human embryonic stem cell-derived retinal pigment epithelium cell adhesion, maturation, and function through coating with truncated recombinant human vitronectin

A?M: To assess the choroidal structural alterations after intravitreal injection of aflibercept in neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD). METHODS: Fifty eyes with treatment-naïve nAMD were evaluated at baseline, 3rd, and 12th month. Fifty eyes of 50 healthy subjects were also included as controls. Choroidal thickness (CT) was measured in the subfoveal region. Total circumscribed choroidal area (CA), luminal area (LA), stromal area (SA), and choroidal vascularity index (CVI) was calculated using Image J. RESULTS: At baseline, subfoveal CT was increased in nAMD patients compared to controls (P=0.321). Eyes with nAMD had a significantly increased total circumscribed CA and SA (P=0.041, 0.005, respectively). The CVI was decreased (P=0.038). In the 3rd month, the subfoveal CT, LA, and CVI revealed a decrease (P=0.005, P=0.039, 0.043, respectively). In the 12th month, subfoveal CT, LA, and CVI were decreased in comparison to baseline measures (P<0.001, 0.006, 0.010, respectively). CONCLUSION: Significant structural alterations are found after intravitreal aflibercept treatment during the 12-month follow-up, in particular at the 3rd month, in eyes with nAMD.
